More than postpartum care

Mothers deserve care that sees the complete picture.

Many postpartum trainings stop at newborn care, feeding, and household help. The Certified Maternal Doula (CMD) prepares you to support the whole mother — her nourishment, rest, movement, stress, relationships, home, and community — through pregnancy, recovery, and everyday life with a baby.

What you’ll learn

Where postpartum care meets lifestyle support.

A CMD does not diagnose or replace a healthcare provider. She learns to see what traditional care can overlook — and to offer realistic, non-medical support that fits each mother’s culture, budget, and resources. Not a checklist: a way of seeing the woman in front of you.

  • —

Support the mother as a whole person, not only as a newborn’s caregiver

  • —

Connect hands-on postpartum care with the factors that shape maternal health

  • —

Offer practical education mothers can use in everyday life

  • —

Recognize gaps in support and connect families with the right resources

  • —

Collaborate with providers, lactation professionals, therapists, and community health workers

  • —

Help families build habits that last after doula care ends

Designed to equip the doula, too

You’re not trained only to complete shifts. You’re equipped to build a body of work.

Learn to build a professional practice, communicate your value, form partnerships, and create services that grow with you — classes, support groups, workshops, and community programs.

The CMD is also the first step toward the Certified Maternal Leader (CML) designation, for doulas ready to teach, develop programs, and lead maternal-health initiatives locally or globally.

The purpose behind the training

“Mothers deserve doulas who understand that recovery is affected by more than birth — support that considers the mind, body, home, relationships, nourishment, and community surrounding them.”

Postpartum doula education with a deeper purpose: healthier mothers, stronger families, and doulas who become meaningful contributors to maternal health.
